If you're out and about running errands on a cold November morning, few things offer more comfort than a hot cup of fresh coffee and maybe a warm bagel or roll. Such were my thoughts recently as I shuffled into The Last Bite in High Falls, NY. It was an early, cold, and so far coffee-less morning, so I was in need of some quality nourishment. I'm always looking for great local spots to eat in the Hudson Valley, and I had heard good things about The Last Bite. I stepped up to the old-time storefront, with an aged hanging sign swinging in the wind, reminiscent of an era long past.

As soon as I opened the door my senses perked, as I smelled the aroma of coffee brewing and eggs cooking. The small shop consisted of a few tables by the large front windows looking out onto Main Street High Falls, NY. There were shelves and counters stocked with baked goods and fresh treats. Clever & Quirky, hand-written signs guided you to the coffee station (my 1st stop) and the "Sandwich Slayers" sandwich bar, where specialty sandwiches, Paninis, and make-your-own sandwiches are available. Since it was the morning I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich on a bagel and sipped my coffee as I heard my eggs sizzling in the background. The Last Bite offers a range of delicious, home-cooked food. They're very vegetarian friendly, every specialty sandwich has a vegetarian version; there are delicious vegetarian wraps & soups, and the classic "Fakin Bacon" for breakfast. My egg sandwich (non-vegetarian) was cooked just right, and the toasted bagel it was made on was fresh, tasty, and huge!  The coffee was dark & rich and they offer other hot beverages such as espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos. A juice bar completes the picture with a daily variety of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from.
