Ahhh, summer in the Catskills has finally arrived! The mountains buzz with the chatter of hikers and climbers, the Hudson River fills with kayakers and boaters, and the farm stands burst of abundant sweet corn, vegetables and fruits all locally grown in our fertile river valley. The natural landscapes and world renowned points of interest brings out-of-towners in droves to our quaint and idyllic villages and hamlets, all trying to get a taste of the sweet life in Ulster County. Weekends spent here are filled with plenty to do, whether you want to jam pack your schedule with fun festivals and events, or whether you’d rather take it easy, kick back and relax in the mountains or on the water, Ulster County has you covered this July.

July 6th-8th- Hudson Valley Hot-Air Balloon Festival 2018

Taking place at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, this 27th annual event will feature around 100 scheduled hot-air balloon launches, helicopter and balloon rides,moon glows, hayrides, family centered activities, vendors and so much more! July 7th- HITS Triathlon Series at Williams Lake

Get a taste of some of the best of the Hudson Valley during this triathlon series- swim in the spring fed Williams Lake in Kingston, bike to the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir and run the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Multiple distances means that everyone can get in on this action and experience some of the best outdoor recreation in Ulster County. July 8th- Sawyer Motors Car Show

Taking over the village on Main and Partition street in Saugerties, this free event will have car lover's engines running, filled with over 500 cars and live entertainment from 1:00pm-6:00pm.


July 14th- Hurley Stone House Day

Step back in time and explore some of America’s oldest private homes in Hurley! Tour guides are authentically dressed in colonial attire, and Sojourner Truth will even make an appearance, and there will plenty more crafts, demos and childrens activities to participate in, along with Native American dancers. July 15th- Starwalk: “When the Moon Meets Venus”

The Walkway over the Hudson in Highland, NY reopens from 8:00-11:00pm at night for a series of astronomical events, where you can view the night sky with telescopes, learn more about the cosmos through models and presentations and get nighttime photography tips, while enjoying music, food and friends. July 12th-21st- Orange County Fair

While we await the beginning of August for the Ulster County Fair to come to town, we can get a head start on county fair summer fun at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, NY. July 20th-22nd- Hudson Valley Chalk Festival

More than 40 artists and professional street painters will gather at Water Street Market in New Paltz for a weekend filled with some of the most spectacular chalk art you will ever see. Giant murals (some even 3D) will take over the lot and live music, raffles, face painting and open chalk art areas will have you hanging around all weekend (dogs welcome too!)  July 21st-22nd- Rosendale Street Festival

After last year’s hiatus, one of Ulster County’s most beloved festivals returns, taking over the streets of Rosendale for a whole weekend of love, music and fun! Seven stages, 80 bands, 100+ vendors and tons of delicious food and drinks makes for one of the best street festivals ever- and thousand of people are expected to attend. July 21st-22nd- Hutton Fare

Kingston’s Hutton Brickyard on the Rondout Waterfront hosts this new county fair; a marketplace featuring local products and artists, live music and plenty of great food and beverages. Taking the place of last year’s Smorgasbugh Upstate (and said to be even better now in 2018), the market will be open one weekend per month through October, and tickets are $5 at the gate. July 28th- Hudson Valley Brassroots Festival

Seed Song Farm in Kingston hosts this festival for the first time on their Catskill Mountain foothill farm. Celebrating brass music with 8+ bands, with sounds ranging from Latin American to punk, enjoy sweet music  while touring the farm and getting some great locally sourced food and drink. COMING UP JULY 31st- AUGUST 5th ➡️ ULSTER COUNTY FAIR

The Ulster County Fair finally comes back to the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz, with all the same midway rides, vendors and fun we’ve come to love. This year’s headliner acts coming to town include Thunder Ridge, Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters, The Charlie Daniels Band and Journey’s former lead singer Steve Auger.
